Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve
Nanda Devi, Hill Stations india The Nanda Devi National Park is situated around the peak of Nanda Devi at 7,817 m (25,646 ft). Along with the adjoining Valley of Flowers National Park to its north-west, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. The earliest recorded expedition to the Nanda Devi was in 1883 by W W Garden. However the area remained obscure till the mid-1930s, when Tilman and N E Odell explored and scaled the Nanda Devi. Their expedition opened the route to the rest of the world and soon the region turned into a game sanctuary. The 1950s saw organized expeditions for the Nanda Devi. Finally, in 1982, the Indian government declared the region a National Park and, later, granted it the special status of a Biosphere Reserve.
The temple at Badrinath, also called the Badrinarayan temple, is widely considered to be one of the holiest of Hindu temples and is dedicated to the god Vishnu. The temple and town are one of the four Char Dham and Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. It is also one of the 108 Divya Desams, the holy shrines for Vaishnavites. The temple is open only six months every year (between the end of April and the beginning of November). Built by Adi Shankaracharaya, the philosopher-saint of the 8th century, the temple has been renovated several times due to damage by avalanches, It was restored in the 19th century, by the royal houses of Scindia & Holkar.
Valley of flowers
Valley of Flowers, Himalayan eco lodges The locals always knew of the existence of the Valley of Flowers, nestled in the western Himalayas, and believed that it was inhabited by fairies. It is home to many celebrated flowers like the Brahmakamal, the Blue Poppy and the Cobra Lily and to several rare and endangered animals, including the Asiatic Black Bear, Snow Leopard, Brown Bear and Blue Sheep. Today, this richly diverse alpine shrub and meadow region, located within a transition zone between the Zaskar and Great Himalayas ranges to the north and south, respectively, and between the Eastern Himalaya and Western Himalayas, is an internationally acknowledged ecological sensitive area.
